Ref. No.: ISAT 007/2020 29 January 2020
Dear ISAT Members,
As you will be aware from the many news reports there is a spreading infection in China related to coronavirus. The infection has now spread to a number of confirmed cases in neighbouring countries, including Thailand. Therefore, it is very important that we all take steps to reduce the risk of spread of this virus. ISAT is working closely with the Thai Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education to ensure that any guidelines they offer can be sent out to all of our member schools.
The following information is from the World Health Organization (WHO) which schools may find useful to use with their school communities.
Recommendations from the health authorities are that schools need to be vigilant and must try to have procedures that identify any sick child who attend each day so they can be returned home to be cared for by their parents and prevent the infection of other children.
Schools should make sure that their parents know that if their children have any of the following symptoms that they should keep them off school and seek medical advice:
- Sore throat or dry cough
- Runny or stuffy nose
- Muscle pains
- Extreme tiredness
ISAT will continue to work closely with the appropriate health authorities and Ministry of Education to monitor the situation. We will keep you updated with any new information as it becomes available.
